Dear Readers,

My name is Cheryl Cecchetto, Owner and President of Sequoia Productions.  I am proud to present the Oscars® Governors Ball for my 25th consecutive year.  They say it takes a village to raise a child.  Well, it takes a strong, dedicated production team to create a spectacular evening replete with memories and magic.

This year’s 86th Oscars Governors Ball features the understated elegance of sleek, structural lines, merged with the timeless wonder of nature, under a canopy of a luminous, evening sky.

Lounge seating will accent lush surroundings, reflecting a relaxed lifestyle.  An intimate atmosphere invites the “Stars under the stars” to mix and mingle amid romantic textures of deep aubergine, rich chartreuse and Italian leopard tapestry, all majestically framed by dynamic, vertical garden walls.

A cutting-edge special event in Hollywood is progressive, passionate, detailed, inviting, ever-changing, stimulating, entertaining, and inspires lasting memories.  Now you can invite your family and friends into your very own Oscar screening Party on March 2, 2014. Here are a few tips for you to bring a little piece of the Governors Ball home.

Invitations

Set the tone by sending out an Oscar-themed invitation using Oscar key art. For inspiration, download the official Oscar poster at Oscar.com.  Try an online resource to design and send out invitations to your guests.

A contest to guess this year’s Oscar winners is a surefire way to kick off the festivities and warm up the crowd. Make sure to include this link on your invitation: http://cdn.media.oscar.abc.com/media/2014/pdf/2014/nominees_ballot.pdf and the following instructions:

1. Prior to the Oscar party, please print the 2014 Oscars “My Picks”
2. Enter your predicted winner for each category
3. Write your name on your ballot, and hand it in when you arrive to the party
4. Your ballot will come in handy throughout the evening, with chances to win some seriously fabulous prizes

Prizes

  • How about 85 Years of the Oscar: The Official Oscar History of the Academy Awards coffee table book
  • A fantastic bottle of Sterling Vineyards wine
  • A delicious bottle of Thienot Champagne
  • Both are served to the stars on Oscar night!

Décor

Inspired by this year’s Governors Ball setting, which emulates a beautiful garden framed by vertical, “living walls,” accent your own home with florals and candles for that special, natural touch of romance.

Channel your inner “Marks Garden” (The Governors Ball official florist), and create inspired florals that include garden cut roses, hydrangeas, wisteria, birch and moss.

Photos

Upon arrival, snap your guests’ picture in a simple “photo booth,” with a trendy and retro Polaroid camera. You can also capture photos on your smart phone, and tweet and Instagram them with the hashtag: #oscars

Music

To entertain your guests throughout the evening, create an upbeat playlist of the following nominated original scores:

Throw in a few hits of this year’s Governors Ball featured performer, John Legend. Fall in love all over again listening to one of my favorites, “All of Me.”

Games

Delight your guests with themed party games, turning “mixing and mingling” on its ear.

You guarantee the fun with your own Oscar-based Trivia Game. For example: In what Oscar-Winning movie did a character say the following: “Attica!,” “I’ll make him an offer he can’t refuse,” “Stella!” and one of my favorites, “You had me at hello.”

Food

Comfort, style, class and great taste sum up the inimitable Wolfgang Puck. It’s no wonder he’s been catering the Governors Ball for 20 delicious years. During each commercial break, spice up your party by tray passing a few samples of Wolfgang’s signature small bites. Whether it’s a decadent truffle chicken pot pie, creamy smoked salmon pizza with caviar, or mini kobe beef burger—your guests will be sure to enjoy every single bite that comes by.

Build the anticipation! Download clips of the most outrageous (and therefore most memorable) past Oscar speeches, and watch them over pre-set hors d’ouevres.

Intrigue and pamper your guests with a few of these tantalizing Governors Ball recipes, right from the master chef himself.

Play mixologist and feature a Sterling Vineyards wine tasting bar along with a Johnnie Walker gentlemen’s lounge.

Last but not least, schedule a 2015 at home Oscar party to get your guests excited for the next year!
