Oscar.com is giving you an in-depth look into the making of this year’s outstanding Best Picture nominees. In this sixth installment of the video series from the Academy Theater at Lighthouse International in New York, NY, we feature the edge-of-your-seat thriller GRAVITY.
Best Actress nominee Sandra Bullock plays Ryan Stone, a medical engineer on her first space mission with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalski, played by George Clooney. They are the sole survivors of their crew when wreckage from a nearby space accident strikes their shuttle, and they must find their way back to earth.
In this clip, writers Jonas and Alfonso Cuaron and producer David Heyman talk about the technology they used to make the movie, and Bullock explains how the discomfort she experienced during filming helped her tap into the frustration her character was going through. Clooney also weighs in, praising the screenplay and saying he was thrilled to work with the writers and his longtime friend Bullock.
Which of this year’s contenders will win Best Picture? Find out on Oscar Sunday, March 2, 2014, at 7 p.m. ET | 4 p.m. PT on ABC and online at oscar.go.com.
