Best Picture Closeup: The Wolf of Wall Street

  • By Valerie Ciliento

Oscar.com is spotlighting each of this year’s Best Picture contenders in its latest video series. Get an inside look into the making of these extraordinary films with exclusive interviews from L.A.’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater. In the third installment of the series, we feature THE WOLF OF WALL STREET.

Based on a true story, the film centers around the excessive lifestyle of corrupt stockbroker Jordan Belfort played by Best Actor nominee Leonardo DiCaprio, and his fellow money-hungry business partner Donnie Azoff played by Best Supporting Actor nominee Jonah Hill. Listen as they describe how they felt portraying these real-life characters who didn’t see the “wake of destruction” ahead of them.

You might wonder, did the filmmakers exaggerate the story? Writer Terence Winter reveals the answer in this video clip, while director/producer Martin Scorsese explains how he captured the mindset of these over-the-top individuals.

Which of this year’s contenders will win Best Picture? Find out on Oscars Sunday, March 2, 2014, at 7 p.m. ET | 4 p.m. PT on ABC and online at oscar.go.com.
